How to Open a CADILLAC Key Fob

To learn how to change a battery in your Cadillac key fob, first you’ll need to learn how to open the key fob up! Here’s what you need to do:

1. Locate the small release button. It should be found on the side of your Cadillac key fob. Press it to release the emergency key.
2. Take out the emergency key and set it down in a safe place.
3. Locate the narrow groove on the key fob (it should be about the size of the tip of the emergency key). Wedge the keyblade (or a flathead screwdriver) into the groove, applying light pressure to separate the two parts of the key fob and gain access to the battery.

Steps to Replace the Key Fob Battery: Model Years 2014+

In newer model year Cadillac vehicles, replacing the key fob is a bit different than the procedure found above. And, while the advent of the 2020 Cadillac CT5 sedan heralded in a new key fob design for the entire Cadillac lineup, key fobs from model year 2014 up through the present have the same innards, and thus require the same procedure for replacing the battery, as follows:

1. Open the key fob per the same process found above, applicable to older models.
2. Once the key fob has been opened, you’ll notice that one side of the casing holds the circuit board, and the other side holds the battery. 
3. Take out the old battery. Put it aside so you can properly dispose of it.
4. Replace your battery with a new CR2032 battery with the positive side facing down.
5. Reassemble the two sides of the key fob.
6. Return the emergency key to its original position.
